In challenging economic times like we’re experiencing now, many homeowners find themselves in a dilemma in which fake security cameras may well be able to help them. You see, with unemployment high and more and more people hurting, it’s inevitable that home burglaries and even home invasions will be on the rise as desperate people turn to desperate means. Of course we all want and need to protect our families and our property, but at the same time, we’re struggling just to get by and the thought of coming up with a bunch of money to deter these would-be criminals is just too difficult to deal with. What you need is an inexpensive solution to help tell these creeps to move along and NOT target your house. And fake security cameras can serve that purpose quite well indeed.
The first thing worth noting before we go any further is that while fake cameras that imitate the real closed circuit TV camerals (or cctv security cameras) may be a deterrent to some opportunistic criminals, in reality they do nothing to actually help in crime fighting.
What I mean by that is that a real security camera should be able to help you identify, catch and prosecute any criminal that perpetrates a crime on your property. If you rely on nothing but fake cameras and something actually does go down at your house or business… you’re not going to have anything on record to help your cause. So…
With that said, and with the understanding that ‘fake security cameras’ aren’t the equivalent of a real residential security system, it is worth looking at them as a kind of band aid and something that may serve you well without you needing to shell out a whole lot of money.
You see, many home burglaries are nothing more than crimes of opportunity. What that means is that someone is passing by, or maybe they have even been casing your neighborhood for a while, and when they decide to strike, your house is the one they (unfortunately) decide to zero in on. For a situation like this, consider for a moment if you were in the perpetrator’s shoes; You walk up to the house you’ve decided to break into, and whether it’s the front door, back door or garage, before you decide to force the lock you look around and see… a surveillance camera with a red blinking light pointing right at where you will need to be standing to get to the door. What are you going to do?
I’ll tell you what most hoodlums will do – they’ll move along and decide NOT to target your home! And guess how much that fake security camera cost you? Probably somewhere between $30 and $50. Not bad!
If you doubt that a fake camera has any real power to deter, think about this for a moment.
Have you ever been driving down the street or highway and you’re not paying attention to your speed (or maybe you even know that you’re exceeding the speed limit). All of a sudden, you see a black and white police car parked on the side of the road. Whoa! You’re going to step on your breaks, even if you WEREN’T speeding, just to play it safe. And guess what? You don’t even know for sure if there is a police officer sitting in that car or not. It might be empty and you’re in zero danger of getting a ticket for breaking the law. But… you’re not going to wait to find out if it’s a ‘legitimate’ speed trap or not, are you? No! You’re just going to do your best to be a law abiding citizen as you go about your business.
It’s the same thing with a fake security camera! Why would a thief bother to come and take a close look to figure out if it’s a ‘legitimate’ camera? Because maybe it IS, in which case they are totally busted! Instead, they’re just going to take the easy way out (they are criminals after all, right?), and move along to a new target.
Again, when it comes to your family and your home security, I don’t recommend cutting any corners unnecessarily. At the same time, I understand all too well the situation that far too many of us are in, and we still need to do whatever we can to protect our loved ones. Even if you already have some sort of residential security system in place, adding fake security cameras to the mix can be a good way to add just a little bit more… to keep those crooks second guessing just a little bit more.
